Building our Dream Home
So we decided to stop updating our current home and build a new home.
Here are my Tips on how to get the nicest home you can afford with the builder upgrades that will give you the most bang for your buck.
1. Get the best lot you can find. Builders will give incentives for smaller least desirable lots or charge a huge fee for the better lots and location. I think it is so worth it to pay upfront for a premium lot. Our lot is one of the bigger ones and backs up to the mountains and walking trails with no neighbors in back. That is an upgrade worth paying big bugs for even if that means getting a smaller house.
2.upgrade kitchen cabinets and granite countertop.
We got the taller staggered cabinets it just looks better. And better quality granite. We saved money by choosing the most simple timeless look but best quality we could afford.
3. If you are like me and like to hide the garbage bins do the garbage and recycle drawer upgrade in kitchen cabinets. So worth it.
4. Upgrade flooring for sure! The most of your money will go into your flooring.
Totally worth spending your money on the better quality flooring and stick with more neutral choices for resale value. I really don’t like carpet but for resale value I noticed that people still prefer them especially in their bedrooms. Berber carpet is by far my favorite. It will hold up the best.
5. Upgrades in the front yard landscaping and home elevation. We went with the tuscan style bricks and did the desert landscaping which is low maintenance.
